On Friday, February 15, Dionessa Biton joins the QuantBio group for a one-year scholarship. During her previous studies, she obtained a bachelor's degree in Applied Physics from the University of the Philippines in Diliman where she studied agent-based modeling of complex systems such as earthquakes and granular materials. After her bachelor's thesis, Dionessa participated in a postgraduate program at the International Center of Theoretical Physics in Trieste, Italy, and obtained a postgraduate degree in Quantitative Life Science. She studied Machine Learning applied to biological systems specifically on modeling olfactory navigation using reinforcement learning with Long-Short Term Memory Networks. In the QuantBio group, Dionessa will work on using Machine Learning on Electron Transfer in Cryptochrome proteins.
