On 23rd November, 2021 a new paper was published with the title "Lethal DNA damage caused by ion-induced shock waves in cells". The paper includes the theoretical description of the impact and interaction between DNA and ion-induced shock waves, which are assumed as a key component of DNA damage. The investigations also showed that shock-wave damage is the dominant source of complex DNA damage, which is extremely harmful to the cell. These findings improve the risk calculation of space travel and outcomes of cancer therapies.
